Externship

“The Dartmouth Externship was an amazing learning experience for me. This opportunity was an eye-opener—there are certain programs you can afford to miss in graduate school, but this is definitely not one of them.” – former externship participant.

2016 Externship Open

The Graduate Studies Office has developed a highly successful externship program linking graduate students with alumni to offer a “day-in-the-life” externship at the alumni’s place of work.

Students are paired with alumni and together arrange a time for students to visit the alum’s place of work. Visits may include a discussion of the career trajectory of the alum, presentation of typical roles and responsibilities in the current setting, insight into the culture and values of the workplace, or opportunities to attend meetings and speak with other colleagues.

The program seeks to connect current graduate students with alumni and give students an opportunity to gain insight and firsthand knowledge of possible career options.

Alumni interested in participating should complete a brief questionnaire by November 3. Current graduate students, from all disciplines, who would like to participate can view the contact list of participating alumni here.
