Dartmouth offers MA and PhD degrees in a broad range of programs and courses in the Arts & Sciences.
Special interdisciplinary programs are also in place, including a program leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS). In addition, cross-disciplinary programs are available in Environmental Sciences, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Nanomaterials.
Dartmouth PhD students have the unique opportunity to extend their learning to areas closely connected to, but separate from, their specific field of study. PhD students often take courses with one of Dartmouth's three professional schools in addition to their departmental coursework. For example, courses at the medical school are available to graduate students in biology, and several science departments have close ties to the Thayer School of Engineering.
