PhD program in Neuroscience

Neuroscience program

The Neuroscience Track of PEMM evolved into a new degree-granting Ph.D. program called Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth (IND)!  Visit their website for more information about this exciting, innovative program!

The Neuroscience Track of PEMM used to provide opportunities for qualified PhD and MD-PhD students to be educated and highly trained for productive careers in neuroscience research. Students utilized innovative approaches to investigate basic, translational, and clinical questions in neurobiology. The interdisciplinary nature of the neuroscience track allowed an extensive range of interactions with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, physicians, and other students. Our neuroscience faculty members represented departments that span the Arts and Sciences, the Geisel School of Medicine, the Thayer School of Engineering, and the Veteran Affairs Hospital, and have expertise in a full spectrum of neuroscience disciplines, spanning from cellular biochemistry to clinical research.

PEMM provided an exciting, interactive atmosphere that fostered the exchange of ideas and approaches, cultivated collaborations, enhanced research activities, and promoted bi-directional research opportunities for both basic science and clinical faculty. We prided ourselves in having a training program in neuroscience that was flexible to the needs of our students, allowing them to apply multidisciplinary approaches, often involving multiple laboratories, to pursue research across a wide range of basic, translational, and clinical neuroscience areas using state-of-the-art methodology.

Our current and past students have explored research in areas including, but not limited to, neurodevelopment, cellular and circuit neurophysiology, systems neuroscience, addiction, autism, schizophrenia, epilepsy, language development, and cognition. However, the intrinsic flexibility of the PEMM neuroscience program allowed students to engage in research uniquely tailored to their academic interests and goals.  Candidates intersested in Neuroscience are encouraged to check out the new Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth program!
