Jesse Casana is an archaeologist whose research investigates settlement and land use history, the emergence and development of complex societies, and the dynamic interactions of humans with their environment. Casana's projects explore large regions, embrace long periods of human history, and employ a wide range of geospatial technologies. He has conducted field projects throughout the Middle East, including in Iraq, Syria and Dubai, and more recently in Antarctica, the Pacific, and across the United States. Prof. Casana established and directs Dartmouth's Spatial Archaeometry Lab (SPARCL), a research group dedicated to developing innovative approaches to archaeological remote sensing using satellite imagery, drone-based sensors, terrestrial geophysics, and underwater mapping technologies.
