I study watersheds through the lens of social-ecological systems to examine how forms of watershed governance respond to various types of environmental and social disturbance. I am especially interested in understanding how successful watershed restoration is a product of both biophysical and institutional interventions. I approach my work using theories from social science, institutional economics, and fluvial science, and I find that engaging with a plurality of research discourses makes my work collaborative and fun. My dissertation projects involve stakeholder-engaged methods that span numerous watershed geographies including Vermont, coastal New Hampshire, Colorado, and Washington.
