Dartmouth College is located in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont. This region along the Connecticut River is nestled between the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont. There are outdoor recreation opportunities in every direction regardless of season: hiking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, disc golf, mountain biking - the list goes on! If you have a long incubation, you could be kayaking the Connecticut River (with a rental from Dartmouth's Ledyard Canoe Club) or skiing at the Dartmouth Skiway in 20 minutes.
Dartmouth and the surrounding area offer plenty to do inside too. Get to work making something in Dartmouth's woodworking workshop, ceramics studio, jewelry studio, or letterpress studio. Learn to bake or hone your skills at the nearby King Arthur Flour (or just enjoy the delicious results!). Find a new board game obsession at two local gaming shops. Team up with the Dartmouth Graduate Student Soccer Club or DartSlam Volleyball. Hit the indoor Dartmouth Climbing Gym (and you can take those skills outdoors to some of the best rock climbing in the country in nearby Rumney, NH!). Become part of the Gradaute Student Council or find your community in one of the graduate student clubs.
Though we're located in a rural setting, we're not isolated. Dartmouth is home to the Hopkins Center for the Arts and the Hood Museum. There are also a variety of theater and live music venues nearby, such as Northern Stage and the Lebanon Opera House. In addition, the area is home to some excellent restaurants, breweries, and shops. Be a part of the local arts scene by play with the Upper Valley Community Band or Upper Valley Chamber Orchestra, singing with the Choral Arts Foundation of the Upper Valley, or acting with The Parish Players. Looking to visit a bigger city? Boston is about 2 hours away and you can take the Dartmouth Coach straight from campus. The Dartmouth Coach also makes daily trips to New York City.
