Carter grew up in the coastal town of Ipswich, MA and received his Bachelor of Science from St. Lawrence University with a major in biochemistry and minor in mathematics. During his undergraduate studies he worked in the lab of Dr. Samantha Glazier to elucidate the DNA binding mechanism of the small molecule methyl green. Once at Dartmouth in the MCB program, Carter joined the lab of Dr. Chris Shoemaker. He is using in vitro biochemistry to learn more about the arrival of SNARE proteins on the forming autophagosome, and the function of tethering proteins like HOPS and EPG5 in the mammalian vesicle fusion system. In his free time, Carter is an avid mountain ultra runner and skier, often spending weekends peak bagging in the Whites.
