Sophie Trafton

Sophie is from York, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine Honors College with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in Chemistry. During her undergraduate studies, she spent a semester studying at the University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her undergraduate thesis research focused on the toxicological effects of a commonly used antibacterial agent, cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC). Using a mast cell model, her research focused on elucisating the mechanisms by which CPC causes mitochondrial tosicity and inhibits cellular metabolism. She hopes to explore the interdisciplinary options through MCB, but is interested in investigating the biochemical basis of disease. Outside of the lab, she enjoys skiing, running, sewing, reading, and traveling.
