A Florida native, Aamani received her bachelor's degree in molecular biology from Stetson University. Her undergraduate work involved using molecular genetics to study development and cellular differentiation in unconventional model organisms like butterflies and sea squirts. During post-baccalaureate research at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University, she investigated the mechanistic underpinnings of human placental cell differentiation using live-cell fluorescence microscopy. In her graduate work, Aamani hopes to approach basic questions in cell biology using microscopy and biochemical techniques. When she's not thinking about science, you can find Aamani writing dubious poetry and passable novels, trying new aquatic sports, or with a set of watercolor paints and a pretty horizon.
