The Skorput lab studies the development and physiology of the somatosensory system. We are particularly interested in understanding how interactions between the nervous system and the immune system alter the neural circuits that convey pain. By leveraging molecular, cellular, physiological, and behavioral techniques we seek to form a more complete picture of how neuro-immune interactions drive the transition from acute to chronic pain with the goal of developing non-opioid analgesics to treat the pathophysiology of chronic pain. Our lab is focused on providing a supportive academic environment for well-rounded training of the next generation of neuro-immunologists.
