Cameron Paton

Hoppa lab

An East Bay native, Cameron grew up in Oakland, California before moving to Portland, Oregon, where he attended Lewis & Clark College for his undergraduate training. At L&C, Cameron joined the lab of Dr. Greta Binford, where he studied the biochemistry of Sicariid spider venom toxins. Cameron pursued his interest in research at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon in the lab of Dr. Kelly Monk. During his time at OHSU, Cameron studied glial cell biology, focusing on astrocyte plasticity during development in the zebrafish model organism. Cameron joined the MCB program in 2021 and joined Dr. Mike Hoppa's lab to study synaptic biology using optogenetics. In his free time, Cameron is an avid foodie, self-proclaimed baseball nerd, boardsports enthusiast, and pet lover.
