Bess received her Bachelors of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Deaf Studies from The College of New Jersey. As an undergraduate, she studied how prion-like proteins in yeast can alter their gene expression in a positive manner when exposed to stress. Her interest in how organisms regulate gene expression throughout development led her to MCB. At Dartmouth, she works in the Kasper lab determining how microRNA-223 is expressed in cells to regulate the endothelial to hematopoietic transition in zebrafish. Outside of lab, she likes to listen to music, bake, hike, and crochet.
