Melissa Carmichael

O'Toole lab

Melissa received her B.S. in Biology from Bridgewater State University. Her undergraduate research focused on the role of heat shock proteins in chemoresistance in ovarian cancer. Of note, while an undergraduate, Melissa greatly enjoyed her service trips to Cambodia where she assisted in building biosand filters to provide clean drinking water to rural villagers. Melissa's current work in the O'Toole lab focuses on investigating drivers of microbial dysbiosis in the gut of patients with cystic fibrosis. When not in the lab Melissa enjoys skiing, hiking, and scuba diving.
