LA JOLLA—The Salk Institute has named plant molecular geneticist Mary Lou Guerinot a Nonresident Fellow, a group of eminent scientific advisors that guide the Institute's leadership. Guerinot holds the Ronald and Deborah Harris Professorship in the Sciences and is a professor of biological sciences at Dartmouth College, where she was the first woman to chair a science department.

As part of the diversity intiatives in the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, the School welcomes Hector Sanchez as the Diversity Fellow for Guarini. Hector received his Ph.D. from the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies at Dartmouth College in the O'Toole/Berwin labs where he studied host-microbe interactions. [more]Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine, has been selected as a Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences by the Pew Charitable Trusts. He is one of only 22 young scientists nationwide awarded this honor in 2021. The Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences provides funding to young investigators of outstanding promise in science relevant to the advancement of human health. McKenna was selected from among 198 nominations submitted by leading U.S. academic and research institutions to receive four-year grants to invest in exploratory research.
