Orientation 2024: September 10, 11, 12, 13

Orientation 2024 will be hybrid (in-person and virtual.)

Virtual: The Orientation CANVAS site will be live in August and will include important information for your review before you arrive to campus. It will also include a few zoom sessions to attend before arrival. In-coming graduate students and new postdocs will receive an email with an invite to join the CANVAS site shortly before the live date in the middle of August.

In-person: Please see information below about time blocks and locations for the in-person events. This information will be updated below for the in-person orientation for Guarini graduate students and postdocs periodically so please check back. If you have any questions about orientation, please contact Jane Seibel.

Lab Safety from 9:00-12:00pm. Location: Life Sciences Center, Arvo J. Oopik, Room 100
Lab Safety is Mandatory for students in: MCB, Biology/Ecology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics, PBS, IND, and PhD students in the QBS program. (Postdocs should check with their PIs about Lab Safety training.)

Institutional Diversity Presentation and Welcome from Guarini Dean from 3:00-5:00pm. Location: Life Sciences Center, Arvo J. Oopik, Room 100. Mandatory meeting for graduate students, postdocs are welcome.
Community BBQ on the Life Sciences Center lawn from 5:00-6:00pm. All graduate students and postdocs welcome!

Union Orientation Session from 11:30-12:30pm. Location: Life Sciences Center, Arvo J. Oopik, Room 100.
First Year Graduate Student Activities Fair from 12:30-2:30pm. Location: Life Sciences Center, Arvo J. Oopik, Room 100. Come and learn about all the great opportunities available to meet other students and participate in activities you are interested in.
TA Panel from 2:30-4pm in DCAL, 102 Baker Library. Graduate students are invited to talk with a panel of experienced graduate TAs. Space is limited, please register.

Coming to Campus

While we hope the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is behind us, we ask you to familiarize yourself with our Covid Guidelines.

The Guarini International Graduate Mentoring Fellow works to support international students, including matching those who wish to be connected with a current student, support with setting up accommodation, and advice on other issues related to coming to the United States as an international student. Postdocs are encouraged to sign up for a Postdoc Buddy. More information for international scholars can be found on this page.

OTHER COMMUNICATIONS

Dartmouth ID Cards – Please make sure to upload a photo (graduate students postdocs). We would like to process your id card as soon as possible so it will be ready when you arrive. Your department will give you your Dartmouth ID card if you are a graduate student.

Slack Workspace – You will be invited to join the Guarini Slack Workspace (Dartmouth Guarini School for Advanced Studies) where incoming students and postdocs can chat with one other and the Guarini Fellows and Ambassadors.
