After Hours Rides (Safety and Security)

If you are on campus or at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and need a ride to somewhere in Hanover, you can call Safety and Security if Advance Transit is no longer running. You can reach Safety and Security

at 603-646-4000. You can also download the Safety and Security app, LiveSafe. The app that provides access to campus resource information, Emergency 911 and Dartmouth Safety and Security communications, anonymous tip reporting, and more.

Dartmouth Coach

The Dartmouth Coach is a private bus company offering daily direct service between Boston (South Station and the Logan International Airport) and the Upper Valley. There is also direct service between the Upper Valley and New York City. In the Upper Valley, there are stops in Hanover, Lebanon, and New London. You can purchase tickets online.

Public Transportation/Advance Transit

Advance Transit (AT) is a free bus system that runs throughout the Upper Valley. The AT generally runs 5 am - 7 pm on weekdays, and does not run on the weekends. There are bus routes that run from campus to

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, West Lebanon, and other local areas. You can download the Advance Transit mobile app to see wait times and routes.

Airports

Lebanon Municipal Airport is a regional, tower-controlled airport located in Lebanon, NH. There are daily commercial service connects passengers to Boston and White Plains, New York. Their main airline is Cape Air.

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (aka Manchester Airport) is a public airport located in Manchester, NH (approximately 1 hour south of Hanover). There are daily flights to different domestic locations.

Boston-Logan Airport is the primary international airport serving the greater Boston area that is located in East Boston. The Dartmouth Coach can bring you to and from the airport, but parking at the airport is also available.

Burlington International Airport is located in Burlington, VT. They offer daily, non-stop flights to domestic locations.

Commuting Students

All commuting (living off-campus) students are required to register their vehicles. Contact the Parking Office to see if your address is in a commuting zone.

Carpools

Carpools are encouraged in situations where it is possible for several commuting students to ride in a single car. Application for a multi-car permit should be made as a group, and only one fee need be paid, although as many cars in the group will be registered as desired. The group will be issued a single windshield card, which must be displayed whenever the car is parked on campus.

Parking

Student parking is prohibited in any space other than the student's assigned lot, with the following exception: Student parking in faculty and employee lots is permitted from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Except for those times, students are prohibited from parking in the faculty and employee areas at any time during the year. This prohibition includes vacations and the days at beginning and end of terms. The visitors' spaces on the campus are reserved for persons conducting business with Dartmouth College and are not authorized spaces for students or student guests.

Student guests will be allowed to park in student lots for periods of two days or less but must first inform the Parking Office.

State Registration

The New Hampshire Director of Motor Vehicles recommends that students register their vehicles in their home states. Students who reside in other states but register their cars in New Hampshire may find that they are legally registered only in New Hampshire. 

International students, scholars, and faculty should visit the Office of Visa and Immigration Services (OVIS) for information relating to obtaining a driver's license.
