[more]This fall, the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies welcomed 227 new students with nearly half arriving from outside the U.S. Orientation week included hands-on sessions focused on lab safety, English language support for non-native speakers, and diversity training, all designed to ease the transition to graduate life. At the Community BBQ, 641 students, faculty, and staff mingled under clear skies on the Life Sciences Center lawn, sharing in the excitement of the new academic year.
[more]Frank J. Guarini '46, a decorated veteran, former congressman, and philanthropist, celebrated his 100th birthday in Jersey City on Aug. 20. He was joined by Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies Dean Jon Kull '88 who thanked him for his contributions to Dartmouth, which have profoundly shaped graduate and international education.
[more]Christopher Callahan has won the Hannah T. Croasdale Award, which is given to a graduating Ph.D. student who exemplifies scholarly excellence, intellectual curiosity, dedication, and a commitment to advancing knowledge and teaching. Christopher Callahan, a PhD '24 in the ecology, evolution, environment, and society (EEES), has been recognized for his outstanding research on climate change and its impacts on global equity and justice. Although Callahan could not attend the award ceremony in person, Dean Kull acknowledged his contributions to the field at the ceremony.
[more]Dr. Ze Zhang has won the 2024 John W. Strohbehn Medal for Excellence in Biomedical Research. This award recognizes a graduating PhD student from one of our degree-granting programs in the medical school. The medal is given to a student who best exemplifies the qualities of a scientific leader, based on intellectual curiosity, dedication, a commitment to the pursuit of new scientific knowledge and teaching, and a sense of social responsibility to the research community. The award was presented by Senior Associate Dean of Foundational Research Susan Roberts.
