Student Spotlight

What do you consider your hometown and how has it shaped you today?

I was born and raised in New York City! Growing up in the city that doesn't sleep has instilled in me a strong desire to hustle and bustle, therefore I think I have a strong can-do attitude and will always find a way to accomplish my goals.

Where did you earn your undergraduate degree and what did you study?

My academic journey is a bit non-traditional; I first earned my associates in science from Bronx Community College in biology. Shortly after, I obtained my bachelors in science from John Jay College in cellular and molecular biology.

What is your program at Dartmouth?

I am a 4th year PhD student in the molecular and cellular biology program, in the Kasper lab within the molecular and systems biology department.

Why did you choose Dartmouth to pursue your degree?

My driving reason to attend Dartmouth was the small and tight net community. Importantly, what stood out to me was the supportive and inclusive environment that was expressed by the students and faculty.

What is your area of research and what inspired your research?

I am broadly passionate about stem cells and elucidating the mechanisms which govern their cell differentiation. My research focuses on elucidating how the glycoprotein Adam10a regulates the formation of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in the zebrafish model.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as a community fellow this term or year?

I am deeply honored and excited to have been selected for this fellowship, as it aligns perfectly with my career aspirations of fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment. I look forward to building upon the foundational work I led as the co-founder, president, and vice-president of SACNAS at Dartmouth, further advancing initiatives that promote equity and inclusion within the academic community.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

Build a supportive network that uplifts you through every stage of your career while staying focused on your personal growth. Surround yourself with people who inspire and encourage you, and measure your progress not by others' milestones, but by how far you've come since yesterday.

What is your favorite place or activity that you like best in the Hanover area?

During the summer you may find me kayaking and/or enjoying ice cream from Dairy Twirl. Throughout the year, you might find me attending a spinning class at the Alumni Gym!
