2020 Mental Health Awareness Month Event Listing

The Graduate Student Council, in partnership with the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, has created a month-long program to raise awareness of graduate student mental health.

Mental health is a huge part of grad life and we have events of all types to help inform, relax, and bring fun to all grad students this month. All events are free and open to the graduate students and postdoc community.

Check out these events for Grad Mental Health Month brought to you in collaboration with the GSC, DCAL, Counseling Center, and Guarini School.

Roadblocks to Writing Your Dissertation
Tuesday, Jan 5, 2020 @ 5-6pm, 125 Haldeman
Join Todd Lindsley, Psychologist at Dick's House for a discussion on the "roadblocks" that get in your way to completing your doctoral dissertation. Todd will cover such topics as advisor/advisee relationships, procrastination, writers' block, life balance, and anxiety.

Meet tour guide Randy Brown at the info desk in the Baker main lobby.
Reaching the Bell Tower cat-walk requires climbing several flights of stairs including a "ladder-like" stair for the last 20 feet. Climbing the stairs and walking outside on the cat-walk may be physically demanding and difficult for any person uncomfortable with heights.

Mental Health Monday: Fitness Center Orientation at Alumni Gym
Monday, Feb 10 @ 3-4pm in the Alumni Gym
Trying to find a way to boost your mental health during the winter? Is going to the gym intimidating? Is your new year's resolution to go to the gym more but you're not sure where to start? Have no fear, we can help! Sign up for an orientation of the facilities at Alumni Gym and learn how to use the cardio and lifting equipment in the Fitness Center. Space is limited for this session so sign up early (but more sessions can be created, so sign up late too)!

Wellbeing and Learning
Wednesday, Feb 12 @ 12-1 pm, DCAL 102 Baker Library

Join us to talk about what others are doing that impacts your wellbeing and learning in both positive and negative ways and reflect on what you might do to have a positive impact on the wellbeing of those learning from you.

Suicide Prevention workshop
Wednesday, Feb 12th and 25th (only need to attend 1 workshop), 4 -6 pm 
Come learn how to recognize suicide warning signs and how to respond to help refer friends, students or community members in crisis to the appropriate campus resources. Together, we can create a caring community by increasing knowledge and reducing stigma around mental health. Please sign up!

Coloring and Careers with Kerry
Wednesday, Feb 26 @ 12 – 1pm, 64 College Street, Guarini Conference Room
Come color and casually talk about careers with Assistant Dean of Graduate Student Affairs, Kerry Landers. She will provide pencils, coloring books, and lunch. You just need to show up and hang out over lunch.
