Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies Virtual Investiture

The Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies will hold a virtual ceremony in recognition of the awards and accomplishments of more than 200 graduates on Saturday, June 13 at 4:00 p.m.

On April 9, President Philip J. Hanlon '77 announced the postponing of commencement exercises due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that holding the annual gathering, with 12,000 people from around the world crowded on the Green would be "simply too great a risk to take." Since then, collaborative discussions have been underway among Guarini School staff, graduate students, and the media support group to plan for a virtual Investiture event.

The 2020 virtual Investiture will honor the accomplishments of more than 200 graduates from the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies. Introductory remarks will be made by Dean F. Jon Kull '88 and Provost Joseph J. Helble will deliver welcoming remarks.

Kimberley Ann-Marie Lewis, PhD, and Daniel E. Affsprung, MALS, have been selected as the student speakers and will deliver remarks in the virtual event. Each year, class marshals are selected on the basis of good citizenship, enthusiasm, integrity, and positive impact on others. This year, three virtual marshals have been recognized: James Brown, MS, Rebecca Finger-Higgens, PhD, and Ellie Nan Storck, MALS.

The Ted and Helen Geisel Third Century Professor in the Humanities and MALS Chair Donald. E. Pease will present the MALS thesis awards, and Dean of Geisel School of Medicine Professor Duane Compton will present the John W. Strohbehn Medal for Excellence in Biomedical Research. Dean Kull will present the Community Award and Teaching Award and President Hanlon will deliver closing remarks.
