Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies Virtual Investiture 2021

The Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies will hold a virtual ceremony in recognition of the awards and accomplishments of more than 200 graduates. Out of an abundance of caution and in the interests of inclusion, the decision was made to hold the ceremony virtually.

The 2021 pre-recorded ceremony will honor the accomplishments of the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies students and will be available to watch on the Guarini School website on Friday, June 11that 3 p.m. Introductory remarks will be made by Dean F. Jon Kull '88 and Provost Joseph J. Helble will deliver welcome remarks. Wei Yan, PhD, and Ashley Wells, MALS, have been selected as the student speakers and will deliver remarks in the virtual event.

The Ted and Helen Geisel Third Century Professor in the Humanities and MALS Chair Donald. E. Pease will present the Byam Shaw-Brownstone Thesis Excellence awards, and Dean of Geisel School of Medicine Professor Duane Compton will present the John W. Strohbehn Medal for Excellence in Biomedical Research. Dean Kull will present the inaugural Guarini School Diversity award, the Guarini School Teaching award, and the Hannah T. Croasdale award. President Philip J. Hanlon '77 will deliver closing remarks.

Guarini School graduating students are invited to attend the college commencement exercises, however due to space restrictions in place in adherence with guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Guarini School students will not be permitted to invite guests. Commencement exercises will be held at Memorial Field on Sunday, June 13 at 11 a.m. The academic procession will begin at 10:30 a.m. and class marshals, Wei Yan, PhD, Amanda Gokee, MALS, and Aarish Ravikumar Iyer, MS, will lead their cohort into Memorial Field. The marshals are selected based on good citizenship, enthusiasm, integrity, and positive impact on others.

On Saturday, June 12 a reduced-capacity in-person event will offer an opportunity for graduating students who are cleared to be on campus to bring two guests to celebrate their achievements and accomplishments. The Guarini School Celebration will take place on the lawn between the Life Sciences Center and Anonymous Hall. This will be an informal celebration with a photographer on hand. Details on this event can be found on the Guarini School website.
