Investiture 2022 Marshals

The Marshals carry specially commissioned batons engraved with the crest of the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies as they lead their peers in the Investiture procession. 

For the 2022 Investiture ceremony, we are delighted to recognize Monica Elisa Espinoza, PhD, Amanda Ann Skinner, MALS, and Charles J. Carver, MS, as Investiture Marshals.

Monica Elisa Espinoza
Hometown: San Marcos, California
Degree: Ph.D. in Quantitiative Biomedical Sciences, taking a systems biology approach to autoimmune disease working in the Whitfield lab.

While at Dartmouth, Monica won a NIH training grant to uspport her research and supported the planning process of a bioinformatics symposium. As a personal achievement, she tells us, she learned how to ski! Monica's future plans are to continue research in computational biology and help other first-generation students along the way.

Amanda Ann Skinner
Hometown: Edinburgh, Scotland
Degree: MALS, Creative Writing

Amanda holds the position of Assitant Director of Outreach and Communication at the Guarini School where she supports the Guarini community with internal and external communications. She has worked with many faculty across Guarini programs and beyond in support of their NSF CAREER award proposals, connecting them with outreach opportunities throughout the community. Amanda is co-PI on an NIH SEPA award, and served as editor-in-chief of Clamantis: the MALS Journal. Future plans are to continue with all of the above, and to dedicate more time to creative writing.

Charles J. Carver
Hometown: Westfield, New York, then Buffalo, New York
Degree: Masters in Computer Science, then following his advisor to Columbia University to continue his Ph.D. His research is in visible light communication and sensing.

Charlie served as Vice President of the Graduate Student Council, which was predominately advocating for the well-being of Dartmouth graduate students at the administrative level. He was a 2019 NSFGRFP recipient, received best paper award at NSDI'20 and best demo award at HotMobile'20. Charlie was also delighted to have had the opportunity to ski before work in the winter!
