Science Day at Dartmouth Offers Young Scientists a Chance To Explore

On Saturday, April 5, Dartmouth welcomed more than 600 attendees for the 10th annual Science Day, an event dedicated to making science fun, accessible, and hands-on for kids and families across the Upper Valley.

Visitors explored 25 interactive activity stations across scientific disciplines spanning from extracting DNA from strawberries, racing humanoid robots, and exploring the microscopic world. This year's Science Day was made possible by over 135 volunteers–including graduate students, postdocs, undergraduate students, faculty, and staff– across 11 departments who brought their passion for science to life through creative activities.

"It was amazing to see our volunteers share their scientific disciplines with enthusiasm, and be met with that same level of energy and curiosity from participants," said Samantha Liu, one of the event organizers.

Another organizer, Irma Vlasac, said that while Science Day is geared towards children, it's really for everyone. "This year, a retired engineer told me how much he appreciated the event, especially at a time when science is often politicized," she said. "It was a lovely reminder that the impact of events like this reaches far beyond the classroom."

Thanks to all the incredible volunteers, campus partners, and event sponsors who helped make Science Day 2025 a memorable success–we can't wait to see what next year has in store.
