On October 20, 2017 Molly Croteau, a Dartmouth GRAD alumna (Ph.D. Chemistry, 2016) met with a group of grad students to discuss her path into industry and her current experiences in a biotech company. Now a scientist at Avitide, Molly shared how she prepared herself for a career in industry from graduate school.
[more]Molly went to Keene State College in Keene, NH and graduated in 2010 with a B.S. in chemistry. She came to Dartmouth to begin her PhD in Chemistry in the fall of 2010, joined Dean Wilcox's lab, and left in February 2016 with a PhD in bioinorganic chemistry (metals and proteins). She started with Avitide in Lebanon, NH in February of 2016.

Michael Stevenson successfully defended his thesis on September 8, 2016 and is currently a post-doctoral fellow with Hannah Shafaat in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ohio State University. He received a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Thanks to advances in microelectronics, the typical smart phone today has more computing power than the first moon lander. Microelectronics involves the fabrication of minute electronic components with features on the micrometer scale or smaller. Selbi Nuryyeva, a chemistry graduate student at Dartmouth in the lab of Professor Ivan Aprahamian, recently had her groundbreaking research on a drug for Malaria published in Nature Communications. At Dartmouth, Nuryyeva conducts research on molecular machines, an area of chemistry that won the Nobel Prize this year. Her interest in research began during her undergraduate career at NYU Abu Dhabi where she took advantage of several extracurricular research opportunities.
