    The Guarini Diversity Award is designed to recognize outstanding leadership and determined efforts by graduate students in addressing and raising awareness about issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion across campus and in our community. Departments, individual faculty members or administrators, and graduate students are eligible to propose a recipient in the form of a letter of nomination.

  • Hector Sanchez: Finding His Place, Welcoming Others

    In the summer of 2016, when Hector Sanchez arrived on campus to begin pursuing a PhD in microbiology and immunology, he was, at first, uneasy. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, raised by immigrant parents in a small city outside of Los Angeles, and educated at the University of California at Irvine, he wondered if he would feel out of place at a small, northeastern graduate school in the woods of New Hampshire.

  • Hector Sanchez Joins Guarini as Diversity Fellow

    As part of the diversity intiatives in the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, the School welcomes Hector Sanchez as the Diversity Fellow for Guarini. Hector received his Ph.D. from the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies at Dartmouth College in the O'Toole/Berwin labs where he studied host-microbe interactions. We asked him a few questions about his path to graduate school and his current position.
