    Faces convey an astounding quantity of information that facilitates social interactions. Through faces, we can distinguish and recognize identities, accurately detect social cues that signal emotion and direction of attention, and we can make categorical judgments of gender, age, and ethnicity. The multiple streams of information we gather from faces are essential to navigate our complex social lives. How our brain represents this information is the focus of my Ph.D. research in Dr. M.

  • Award Winning Cancer Research

    The annual meeting for the American Association of Cancer Research took place in Chicago, IL April 14-18, 2018, drawing more than 20,000 scientists and industry professionals. Several Dartmouth PhD candidates, professors, and alumni went to represent the multitude of cancer research taking place on campus and hear about cutting edge advances from across the world.

    Perhaps you have found yourself in a grassy opening in the woods and wondered why the forest has not taken it over. If so, you are in good company—ecologists have been studying the factors regulating grassland-woodland dynamics since the discipline was formalized in the late 19th century. One “field” of study (pun intended) attempts to understand why meadows persist in mountainous forests at temperate latitudes.
