The combined use of different imaging modalities can provide a comprehensive evaluation by compensating for limitations of each individual technique. However, increased procedure length, associated risks, and additional efforts on imaging co-registration cannot be overlooked. Therefore, a technique that can simultaneously perform multiple imaging modalities would greatly improve clinical outcomes.
My research focuses on the development of novel microscopic and endoscopic multimodal optical imaging technologies, which enables simultaneous imaging of different modalities through one catheter and system. To solve different clinical problems, I have developed several different kinds of multimodal imaging technologies, including intravascular tri-modality optical coherence tomography/ultrasound/fluorescence, ultrafast endoscopic photoacoustic and ultrasound, ultrahigh sensitive optical coherence elastography, and 1.7-micron optical coherence elastography angiography. Additionally, several technical innovations were proposed and implemented for further optimization. In addition to imaging technologies, I have developed a new anti-vascular technique, OCT guided photo mediated ultrasound therapy. This therapy applies laser pulse and ultrasound burse simultaneously to promote cavitation activity, and therefore is capable of destructing the blood vessel with improved safety and efficacy.
Overall, my research is multidisciplinary, involving optical engineering, system integration, imaging processing, and data acquisition. In this talk, I will
Additionally, prospective strategies of ongoing studies and future plans will be discussed.
