The great marionette tradition of Sicily comes to life in this musical fable on ambition and war.

Intended Audience(s): Public
Categories: Arts, Performances
Registration required. Fee required. Tickets required.

Originally conceived by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky in 1918 as Histoire du Soldat, the work was adapted by internationally acclaimed master puppeteer Mimmo Cuticchio to feature Italian-speaking Sicilian puppets enacting a version of the Faust legend. The inner life of the puppet soldier who makes a deal with the devil takes shape in a dream-like dimension, probing the emotional and social mechanisms that drive human beings to surrender to the lure of ambition.
Filippo Ciabatti, Director of Orchestral and Choral Programs at the Hop, conducts the septet of musicians called for in Stravinsky's spare and striking score that draws on Russian, Yiddish and Lutheran traditions.

The show will be in Italian with English supertitles.
