On May 22, 2023, IDE will host a Foundations of Knowledge and Action: Trans 101 session facilitated by Dane Ray (no pronouns/name only) of the Transgender Training Institute.

This training will review common terms, explore topics such as the differences between sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, and explore examples of how anti-transgender prejudice intersects with other forms of oppression. There will also be opportunities to model how to navigate these conversations using up-to-date and affirming language, and review three essential guidelines for supporting transgender and non-binary people in all spaces.

The overall goals of this training are:

  • Provide a foundational understanding of transgender and non-binary identities and experiences, including the basics of affirming language and non-affirming language to avoid.
  • Increase participants' knowledge of transgender-affirming environments and their ability to contribute to an affirming environment.
  • Increase participants' knowledge of transgender-affirming approaches like microaggression intervention, self and community accountability, and repairing harm.
This two-hour virtual training session is open to Dartmouth students, faculty, and staff. Please register using the form below. You must register in order to receive the session link, which will be provided via email the morning of the training. Registration is available at dartgo.org/TransFoundations.
