Frank Guarini Celebrates 100th Birthday, Honored for Transformative Contributions to Dartmouth

Frank J. Guarini '46, a decorated veteran, former congressman, and philanthropist, celebrated his 100th birthday in Jersey City on Aug. 20. He was joined by Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies Dean Jon Kull '88 who thanked him for his contributions to Dartmouth, which have profoundly shaped graduate and international education.

Guarini's legacy at Dartmouth includes the Frank J. Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, named in his honor in 2018, and the Frank J. Guarini Institute for International Education, both of which stand as testaments to his commitment to academic excellence and global understanding.

To mark the milestone, Kull visited Jersey City to extend birthday wishes and appreciation for Guarini's vision and generosity.

"Frank Guarini's philanthropy has enabled us to support the next generation of scholars, leaders, researchers, and innovators. We are incredibly fortunate to have his legacy at the heart of our mission," Kull remarked.

Beyond his influence on education, Guarini's life is marked by extraordinary public service. A World War II veteran, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and three Battle Stars. He later served seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, championing numerous causes before turning his focus to philanthropy.

Back in Hanover, graduate students celebrated Guarini's milestone with pizza and specially decorated cookies. Dartmouth reflected on a century marked by service, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to education—a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
