Postbac Research Education Program (Dartmouth PREP)

Program Overview

Dartmouth PREP accepts up to 4 scholars into the program, which starts July 1 of each year. During the first two weeks of the program, Dartmouth PREP directors will help students match with a faculty mentor whose lab is doing research of interest to them. Dartmouth PREP offers a broad range of research opportunities across three different graduate program affiliations: Molecular & Cellular Biology (MCB), Integrative Neuroscience (IND), and Quantitative Biomedical Sciences (QBS). More than 41 Dartmouth faculty members are available to mentor Dartmouth PREP scholars for their 1-year research experience and provide guidance on the graduate school application process.

The 2024-2025 program dates are TBD, but generally are early July to late June.

WHY CONSIDER D-PREP OVER GOING STRAIGHT INTO GRADUATE SCHOOL

  • Strengthening critical scientific thinking and research skills before going to graduate school can improve research efficiency in graduate school.
  • Exploring a new research project or STEM field can help reinforce research interests before entering graduate school.
  • Developing writing skills and careful evaluation of the literature can help you start digesting the scientific literature of your graduate project.
  • Gaining more research experience can help you know what you are looking for in a research lab and mentor and position you for competitive graduate programs.
