First respond to the offer by telephone, then follow up with a letter. Be sure to confirm your decision in writing to prevent confusion and misunderstandings.

How to Accept or Decline an Offer

If accepting the offer:

  • Include details of the position including salary, other bonuses, job title, start date and location, and relocation package.
  • Include a short message about your enthusiasm for the position and appreciation for the opportunity.

If declining the offer:

  • Express your appreciation for the offer.
  • Give a brief reason for declining the offer.
  • Make a statement that leaves open the possibility of some future contact, if appropriate.
